Brummie Trap

I tugged on the pocket of her jeans, attempting to pull her down behind the counter, fearing that the intruder would spot her. However, Courteney held her stance, resulting in my tugging efforts only achieving to expose the top lacy band of her ill-gotten-gained knickers.

“Courteney!” I hissed, almost pleading. However, my girl held firm, ignoring my request.

After previously witnessing her struggle when shoe-horning her bum in those jeans, so reasonably safe in the knowledge I wouldn’t be able to pull them down, I persevered and again yanked on her back pocket. I feared if she remained in position, she would be spotted and thus get us arrested, or worse.

What constituted worse, at this point, I couldn’t imagine. However, I guessed if it wasn’t the police snooping around, it would be someone who wouldn’t be too chuffed about our little breaking-and-entering escapade. I already had Karl, Gold-tooth, the mystery caller, the old git who entered my flat, and that Terry bloke to worry about, so adding to that list seemed like a bad idea.

After a couple of extra tugs on her back pocket, she bobbed back down beside me. “Christ, you getting frisky? You trying to get in my knickers again?” she sniggered.

“What did you see?” I whispered, whilst rolling my eyes.

“Nothing … but weirdly, the office chair appeared to move on its own, but there’s no one there.”

I screwed my face up, indicating she wasn’t making any sense.

Courteney shrugged. Then the unmistakable sound of crunching glass caused us both to hold our breath and lock eyes.

“Darling, stay outside for the moment. I think Damian and that awful girl from the estate are trying to hide in the reception area,” Deana hissed out to Terry, who crouched behind the bin in front of the office door.

I raised my palms at Courteney, questioning what the plan was to get out of this mess.

“Stay there,” she whispered. Then, before I could offer up any protest, she was up and away, barrelling her way around the counter towards my old office.

“Shit!”

One thing for sure, even though she was clearly street-wise and possessed a viperous tongue, Courteney would be no match for some thug that might be lurking or an opportunistic thief who’d spotted the broken pane of glass and was now rummaging around. Although I thought it would be a stupid move, I couldn’t leave Courteney to face a potential assailant alone. So, I took a deep breath, broke cover, and hot-footed back to my office in pursuit of my lacy-knicker-elastic exposed, leggy-blonde accomplice.

Courteney stood by the open door with her hands thrust upon her hips. “Oi, you. You hiding behind the bin. Who are you?”

“Oh, Terry, I said to stay out of sight!”

“Come on. I can see your legs. Who are you?”

I joined Courteney by the door as the odd man I’d met on the estate yesterday afternoon peered around from the bin and stood, appearing to sport a nervous grin.

“You!” I exclaimed.

“Who are you? What you doing ’ere?” Courteney fired out.

“Terry, please don’t say anything stupid!”

“I could ask you the same question.
